Welcome Back
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome back to a new year at Cambridge Springs Elementary School. The teachers and staff have been busy getting the school ready for the students’ return. We are excited about the 2008-2009 school year.
We have received the preliminary results of the PSSA testing which was done last spring and our students met AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) targets. Exact scores will be available in September. The results indicate that we are on the right track with our curriculum focus and must keep working with all the students to maintain this and even improve upon our scores. Thank you for working with your children at home to encourage reading, writing, and math skills.
This year Cambridge Springs Elementary will be running on an alphabetical schedule. This means that each day will be assigned a letter from “A” to “E”. This alleviates the problem of classrooms missing the same specials on days off. The monthly calendars will have the days and assigned letters so that students and parents will know what “letter” day it is.
In an effort to maximize instructional time by eliminating classroom distractions during the end of the day, the office will not be calling into rooms for every day dismissals. If you are planning to pick up your child at the end of the day, please send in a note requesting that your child be dismissed with the students who walk home. Walkers are dismissed at 3:17, and you can pick your child up in the office as they arrive.
We will continue to focus on a specific virtue each month. The virtues will be printed on the school calendar for easy reference and highlighted in classrooms throughout the month. In September we will be talking about Responsibility.
Finally, I would like to remind you that if there is a change in transportation for your child it must be submitted in writing. To ensure student safety we are not able to honor a phone request to change transportation/dismissal procedures.
Check your child’s backpack for the following items:
· Emergency Card (Please return ASAP)
· Student Handbook
· Free/Reduced lunch form (Please return ASAP)
· Walking field trip form (Please return ASAP)
· Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook (Please return last page ASAP)
Sincerely,
Patti Fiely

Site Maintenance
Over the next few days our site will be undergoing some maintenance. If you visit the site and notice it doesn’t look quite right, don’t worry! We are working on it and it will be back to normal very soon.
Enjoy the rest of your summer!
