Mrs. Mumford
Hello. I am pleased to be one of three collaborating teachers working in the PENNCREST Gifted Program. I am a former high school English teacher with a Masters in Education and many years of teaching experience. I am also a certified Reading Specialist and a Behavior Specialist. I have completed two graduate courses and attended three state conferences and various inservice programs on education of the gifted. I currently teach at both the elementary and secondary level in the PENNCREST Gifted Program. My philosophy of Gifted Education is that gifted students need to use a combination of intelligence, motivation and interest to enable them to move towards their potential. In that regard, I try to challenge students to challenge themselves and each other. I encourage students to look at what they want to know more about, go beyond just the facts, and create a product to share with others. I also encourage students to go beyond what is available in their own gifted class room. Gifted Programming at PENNCREST offers a variety of possibilities outside the classroom. Students in the elementary have the opportunity to participate in the Academic Games at SRU as well as the Stock Market Game and Creek Connections. Beginning with sixth grade, students have the opportunity to attend a variety of offerings at Allegheny College, FCOLC, and PMI. Further informaton about these offerings is listed on this web site. Please feel free to contact me or one of the other teachers with any question you may have about opportunities for your child.
